Why, hello there!

start photo     Hey there fellas! and welcome to the first post I got on here.

I suppose it’s best to introduce myself. As you’ve probably read from the home page (or if you haven’t you can check it out with the link up top) that I’m Amir – and I’m an avid camper/hiker like most of you are. I won’t pretend to say that I know everything out there but I do know that I enjoy the outdoors as much as anyone else. Nothing quite like being out and about to really bring back a sense of humanity to the human in us.

Most of us have been camping, either the scouts or some other school activity, or as I did, together with my dad. And I’ve always enjoyed the feeling of being out there, sleeping under the stars (or branches – depending on locale hahaha).

But one of the biggest triggers for me to really enjoy being out doors was the time I spent during my officer training. I had come to view being out as something that was more than just an activity. It was part of me, I actually couldn’t get enough of it! When friends asked me to come along to the cities, I would decline and go out on long weekend walks, sometimes totalling 50 km in two days (mind you I was a lot younger and fitter then!, though these were pretty leisurely).

Both my training and civilian experience has thought me that with a little preparation beforehand and a bit of thought before you head out into the jungle/wilds will help you make the most out of your journey, allowing you to thoroughly enjoy yourself  (and be home safe and sound for tea!)
